Bluehost vs SiteGround Shared Hosting

Last updated on by admin

In this review I’m going to compare the top two shared hosting providers: Bluehost vs SiteGround. They offer ideal features for a startup site and are the most effective shared hosts in terms of value such as cheap pricing plans, lots of storage, support etc.

Bluehost and SiteGround both come with three separate shared hosting plans. While Bluehost plans beat them with the price, SiteGround does have some strong features that might be worth paying more.

Bluehost Shared Hosting

PROS

  • The cheapest web host out there for reliable performance
  • Plans are actually built on VPS which can offer good performance even on a shared environment
  • Built-in integration with W3 Total Cache plugin to optimize the speed of a site running on WordPress
  • It comes with advertising offers from Google, Yahoo, Bing which can help you kick-start your business.

CONS

Support may not be as fast as other web hosts. However, I believe that’s still acceptable for the price. When I’m just starting out a new site or trying out a new host I would always feel comfortable paying less.

SiteGround Shared Hosting

PROS

  • Great Support – the support staff are really helpful and friendly.
  • Great Speed and performance. SiteGround probably offers the fastest shared hosting environment at the moment.
  • Smooth signup process and everything is really simple to manage.
  • SiteGround comes with a pre-installed WordPress environment. So It doesn’t take much time to set up your website.

CONS

  • Low bandwidth. Once you start to get more than 10,000 monthly visitors, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher plan. I believe that’s the trade-off you will need to make between performance and price.
  • Prices are quite higher than the Bluehost shared plans (even though they are discounted). So when they go back to their regular prices you will end up paying a lot more.
  • No unlimited storage space. It starts at 10 GB and the GoGeek offers up to 30 GB. This can be an issue after a while if you are also going to host your email inbox on the server.
