Heavy images can slow down your WordPress site. And since page load speed plays a big role in search engine ranking, It’s important for webmasters to optimize their images. Optimizing images can also help you reduce the bandwidth usage of your web server. In this article, I will show you how to automatically compress images uploaded to your WordPress media library without losing any quality.
Applying lossless Compression to Your Images
1. First, you need to install and activate the WP Smush plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/.
2. Upon activation, WP Smush will show how many of your images require optimization.

You can bulk smush 50 images at a time in the free version.
3. WP Smush is fully automated. All new images will be automatically compressed as soon as you upload it.

4. If WP Smush can’t compress an image automatically, It will show a button to smush it manually.
I have done some experiments with this plugin. It seems WP Smush can reduce sizes even after you use Photoshop to optimize it. This plugin makes it so you don’t have to use an advanced photo editing software at all.
That’s it! Now all of your images should be optimized. If you have any questions feel free to share it in the comments.
