How to Add Rich Snippets to Your WordPress Site

Rich Snippets are more attractive snippets with key information that appear in search results when your website contains structured data. Structured data can be articles, events, product reviews, software applications, tv episodes, movies, books etc. It helps Google understand the content of a page and present it beautifully and in a much better way in search results.

Here is an example of rich snippets that appear in search results for one of my WordPress plugins.

How to Add Rich Snippets to WordPress

Currently, there are 3 good options to add rich snippets to your WordPress site:

  • WP Rich Snippets
  • All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets
  • Data Highlighter in Google Search Console

WP Rich Snippets

WP Rich Snippets is a complete rich snippet plugin for WordPress. Not only this plugin supports configurations for various types of structured data, but you can customize how they appear on your site.

WP Rich Snippets General Settings

General tab comes with these options,

  • Currency for the user rating system
  • Enable/Disable reviews on certain custom post types
  • Show a disclaimer icon for paid reviews
  • Show a disclaimer icon with a link to the disclaimer page
  • Open links in a new window or in the same window

WP Rich Snippets Rating Settings

Rating tab comes with these options,

  • Allow site visitors to leave a review/rating
  • Users must choose a rating while leaving a review
  • Enable rating submission in a popup
  • Hide user rating from comment replies
  • Enable/Disable user comment URL field
  • Enable/Disable IP address check

Display tab comes with these options,

  • Display a box below content
  • Display user criteria in the comments
  • Show/Hide author name on all reviews
  • Show/Hide date on all reviews
  • Show/Hide last modified data on all reviews
  • Show/Hide the price
  • Show/Hide only the currency symbol
  • Choose a button color
  • Button text for More Details button
  • Choose a demo button color
  • Button text for Demo button
  • Enable/Disable featured image on rating box
  • Show “Free” when the price is set to 0.

WP Rich Snippets Criteria fields Settings

Criteria tab allows you to define criteria for all of your reviews.

Technical tab comes with these options,

  • Enable loading and combining the WP Rich Snippets style sheets
  • Enable/Disable loading of bootstrap
  • Enable/Disable loading of font awesome
  • Enable/Disable loading of jQuery JavaScript library
  • Enable/Disable loading of jQuery UI
  • Enable/Disable loading of jQuery UI Touch Punch

Overall this plugin has some really advanced features for rich snippets.

All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets

All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets is a free WordPress plugin that can create a short summary of a page for rich snippet view in search results. The plugin supports the following types of content:

  • Review
  • Event
  • People
  • Product
  • Recipe
  • Software Application
  • Video
  • Articles

Data Highlighter

Data Highlighter is a simple tool in Google Search Console that allows you to manually highlight the structured data of a page. There is no need for any coding. All you need to do is highlight the data of a particular page and select their type to show as rich snippets in search results.

Once you have highlighted the data of a page, similar other pages will also get tagged automatically by Data Highlighter. This will save you a lot of time from manually editing each page.
