How to Enable Free Shipping in WooCommerce

Free shipping can be a great incentive for customers to purchase more products from your WooCommerce store. For example, you may want to offer free shipping when an order reaches a certain threshold or if the customer uses a particular coupon. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how you can enable free shipping in WooCommerce.

How to Configure Free Shipping in WooCommerce

In order to configure free shipping in WooCommerce, first, you need to create shipping zone.

Add a Shipping Zone

Adding a shipping zone is pretty straightforward. You simply create a zone and add various regions to it. It could be a particular continent, a country or even a state with a specific postal code. In this example, I created an international shipping zone which includes all the countries.

Add a Shipping Method

Once you have a shipping zone set up, you can add a shipping method to it. In order to do so, click on the Add shipping method symbol next to the shipping zone.

There are three shipping methods available with WooCommerce – Flat Rate, Free Shipping and Local Pickup. Select Free Shipping from the list and click Add shipping method.

Free Shipping Configuration

Click Free Shipping to set a condition for it.

You can choose one of these four conditions to trigger Free Shipping:

  • A minimum order amount or a coupon: this condition will trigger shipping when an order reaches a certain amount or a particular coupon code is used.
  • A valid free shipping coupon: this will trigger shipping when a particular coupon code is used.
  • A minimum order amount: this condition will trigger shipping when an order reaches a certain amount.
  • A minimum order amount and a coupon: this will trigger shipping only when an order reaches a certain amount and a particular coupon code is used.

In this case, I am going to choose A minimum order amount and set it to $80.

When my order amount goes over $80, Free shipping is automatically applied to the shopping cart.

  2. Hello, and thank you. Some of us are having issues with free shipping not showing up even when the free shipping requirement is set to “A valid free shipping coupon” and the coupon checkbox “Allow free shipping” is checked. Do you have any suggestions why that may be?
    Thank you in advance.

  3. And then? What if the subtotal is less than 80? How much woocommerce will consider for shipping?

    • @ahmed, That will depend on your shipping configuration. I’m just showing how free shipping can be automatically triggered when it reaches a certain amount.

  4. It didn’t work for me. I did everything above, and set the minimum order to $50, when I go to check out, it still adds the shipping even though the order is over $50. I don’t know why 🙁

    • @Jennifer, Do you have any other shipping condition that gets triggered automatically?

      • I have the same problem. I have 3 shipping methods (mail, courier, and free). When order is over 30 euros (condition for free shipping), the free shipping is shown, but not selected. I still have the 3 options, the first one selected). You can check at lorenzogalassi.netsons.org;
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
