Yoast SEO Sitemap 404 Not Found Error
Once you update the Yoast SEO WordPress plugin from the plugins menu and visit the sitemap_index.xml file you may see this 404 not found error.
I don’t know exactly why it happens after the update. But it made my sitemap unavailable for a couple of times. Sometimes I wouldn’t even notice until I saw the error in my Google Search Console. So how to fix this sitemap not found error? – well, the process was easier than I thought.
How to fix 404 Sitemap Not Found Error in the Yoast SEO Plugin
I don’t if anyone else is having this issue. But these tricks worked for me.
1. Go to the Plugins menu from your WordPress admin dashboard. Deactivate Yoast SEO.
2. Visit your sitemap and the error should be gone now.
Usually, it’s located at http://example.com/sitemap_index.xml. But you can just enter http://example.com/sitemap.xml and Yoast SEO will automatically redirect you to the sitemap_index.xml file.
